The TER trains in France are regional trains, which usually offer specific discounts sponsored by the regions, when having a discount card.

Otherwise, anybody can buy TER train tickets online, either from the TER website, the SNCF French trains website, or a global tickets selling website such as the great GoEuro.

Starting by a search, for example from Sarrebourg to Strasbourg, and selecting departure date and time.

It is possible on the TER website to enter a discount card, if any, which must be bought in a ticket office in France, at one of the train station in the region.

TER train literally means inter regional train (Train Inter Regional in French), and they usually deserve all small train station in the region, and connect with the largest ones, ensuring connections in case of delays.

The connections are displayed, in our case only direct trains, with different departure times but same fixed price for all of them.

The chosen itinerary displays the train number, departure and arrival time and stations, and overal trip duration.

It is necessary to enter passenger information to buy a ticket online on the TER website, as the tickets bought online must be printed and are only valid with an identification document, on which the name must match the name printed on the ticket.

The booking of the TER SNCF ticket is pretty straightforward.

Pay attention to the dates. The train tickets for TER trains can be used on any TER train, but only on the day specified on the ticket.

After the payment has been processed, an email is sent with a link to download and print the ticket, which is mandatory, unless a customer account has been created and the mobile application SNCF has been downloaded.

The mobile app can also retrieve the ticket from the customer account and is a valid mean of transportation, preventing the need to print the ticket.

In any case, the train ticket PDF document can be printed and used for the trip. It is only valid for one day, and the passenger must be identified, meaning the name must match an identification document.
